Man Utd is among the top 10 dirtiest Premier League teams

The organizers of the 2022/23 Premier League recently announced the disciplinary rankings of the teams, and notably, Manchester United is among the top 10 teams with the worst conduct.

The 2022/23 Premier League had already determined the champion, Manchester City. And they maybe achieve both Premier League and Champions League titles. Along with that, the Premier League organizers also released the disciplinary rankings of the 20 participating teams in the most exciting tournament on the planet. The title for the team with the worst conduct in the Premier League goes to the Wolves, as they were penalized more heavily by referees than any other team this season.

Statistical data shows that Julen Lopetegui’s players received 6 red cards this season, a number far higher than some of the “fair play” teams like West Ham, Arsenal, Brighton, Bournemouth, Southampton, and Nottingham, who didn’t receive any red cards throughout the season. In addition to the 6 red cards, Wolves also received a total of 84 football yellow cards from referees.

If we combine the total number of red and yellow cards for the team nicknamed the “Wolves” in the Premier League this season, it adds up to 90 cards. This is a staggering figure that astonishes people about the extent of the Wolves’ aggressive behavior towards their opponents in the matches of the 2022/23 Premier League.

Wolves have twice as many red cards as the teams ranked below them in the “worst conduct” list, namely Leeds, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea, all of whom received three red cards this season.

Chelsea had a difficult start to the season, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Conor Gallagher both receiving red cards before the end of August. The Blues made some new additions in January to salvage their season, but one of them, Portuguese forward Joao Felix, was sent off just 58 minutes into his debut. This may be one of the crazy football facts you won’t believe.

In fifth place is Everton. The Merseyside Club received 78 yellow cards and 2 red cards. Nottingham Forest and Tottenham share sixth and seventh positions on the disciplinary rankings, which no team would want to be on. Nottingham Forest received 82 yellow cards and no red cards, while Tottenham received 75 yellow cards and 3 red cards.

All three of Tottenham’s red cards this season resulted in the dismissal of a South American player. Emerson Royal was sent off in the match against Arsenal, Cristian Romero in the match against Manchester City, and finally, Lucas Moura in the match against Everton.

Manchester United occupies the eighth position in the top 10 teams with the worst conduct in the Premier League. Overall, Manchester United players have received 76 yellow cards and 2 red cards from referees. Both red cards belong to Casemiro – one of the best defensive midfielders.

In addition, Casemiro becomes the first Manchester United player to receive two red cards in a season since former defender Nemanja Vidic in the 2013/14 season. The most recent Manchester United player to be sent off before Casemiro was defender Harry Maguire in a 1-4 defeat against Watford in the 2021/22 season. It is worth noting that Casemiro had not received consecutive red cards in a season in nearly a decade of playing for Real Madrid.

It is not surprising to see Manchester City and Arsenal at the bottom of the disciplinary rankings as their style of play focuses more on ball control rather than aggressive tackling. Arsenal occupies the 18th position with 52 yellow cards, while Manchester City is in 19th place with 43 yellow cards.

Neither Arsenal nor Manchester City received any red cards. However, West Ham surprises by being the cleanest team in the league, receiving only 43 yellow cards throughout the season and no red cards.
