Cricket vs baseball history

Cricket is a famous game that has been played since the 16th century and has international competitions going back to 1844. However, the international Test cricket era officially started in 1877.

At Melbourne Cricket Ground, the first limited overs international (LOI) game was played in 1971. It served as a filler following the cancellation of a Test match due to days’ worth of nonstop rain. Moreover, the International Cricket Council held the first Cricket World Cup in England in 1975, which featured participation from all of the Test-playing nations.

In addition, baseball and other bat-ball games are said to have evolved from older folk games. A variety of early British folk games had elements that can be recognized in contemporary baseball (as well as in cricket and rounders). According to legend, the game as we know it now developed during the American Civil War in the year 1861.

Baseball vs Cricket rules

The fundamentals of both games are identical: players on one team must try to score runs by hitting the ball, while at the same time, players on the other team will strive to halt the scoring and put batting players out.

In baseball, players try to stop the ball from reaching the striking zone, whereas in cricket, players try to protect the wickets (a set of three wooden sticks).

In both games, the distance that the ball travels after being released by the pitcher (in baseball) or bowler (in cricket) before reaching the batter (in cricket) or batsman (in baseball) is nearly identical.

Baseball vs Cricket ball & bat

The cricket ball is identical to the baseball ball, with the exception that it is wrapped with thick leather and is thus tougher and heavier.

Other items one sees behind the batsman in cricket but not behind the batter in baseball are wickets or three wooden poles with two little bails on top.

Except for the wicketkeeper, fielders in cricket do not wear gloves of any kind to aid them in catching the ball. And cricket bats are wider and flatter than baseball bats.

Cricket vs Baseball field shape

Baseball is played on a diamond-shaped field as opposed to cricket, where the playing surface is an oval-shaped grass field with a narrow rectangular space in the center known as the “pitch.”

Besides, a cricket pitch measures 22 yards, 66 feet, or 20.1 meters. Between the foul lines lies the fair territory, where you can play baseball games.

Moreover, there must be 250 feet between the home plate and the farthest point of the fair area (76.2 meters). However, the advised distances are 400 feet (121.9 meters) in the center field and at least 325 feet (99.1 meters) around the foul lines. This results in a recommended fair territory field area of somewhat more than 100,000 square feet.
