Two great strategists, Sir Alex Ferguson, and Arsene Wenger, have become the first coaches to enter the Premier League Hall of Fame.
The English Premier League organizers have announced a prestigious award to honor the two icons of Manchester United and Arsenal.
The Premier League Hall of Fame is where the organizers of the tournament honor the legends of the number one league in the land of the “misty country” who have outstanding performances in the historic journey of the Premier League from 1992 to the present.
The requirement is to have played at least 5 years in the Premier League and has retired. Most recently, the organizers have announced two more names to join the Hall of Fame, both of which are icons of Manchester United and Arsenal.
The first players to receive this honor are David Beckham, Dennis Bergkamp, Eric Cantona, Thierry Henry, Roy Keane, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, and Alan Shearer.
In 2022, the Hall of Fame honored Sergio Aguero, Didier Drogba, Vincent Kompany, Wayne Rooney, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Patrick Vieira, and Ian Wright.
Kicking off 2023 are Sir Alex and Wenger. The group of 15 former Premier League players who will join this list in 2023 will be announced on March 30th.
It’s worth noting that both of these great managers are the first coaches to appear in this prestigious award. This truly brings a great honor to both Sir Alex and “Professor” Wenger. These managers have created many exciting matches along with their glorious time at Old Trafford and in Arsenal’s colors.
The inclusion of both Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger in the Hall of Fame nominations is sure to receive widespread agreement from English football fans. They truly are icons not just of their respective clubs but of the entire top-flight league.
Alongside Manchester United, Sir Alex won a total of 13 Premier League titles out of 39 major trophies with the Red Devils. He was named Manager of the Season 11 times and Manager of the Month 27 times. Sir Alex currently holds the record for the most Premier League wins with 528 out of a total of 810 games, amassing a total of 1,752 points. With Sir Alex Ferguson, Man Utd had many titles in Premier League and Champions League.
As for Wenger, he also won three Premier League titles. During his time in charge, the French manager helped Arsenal achieve an unbeaten season in 2003/04, earning the prestigious golden trophy – a feat that has yet to be matched in the league’s history.
In the future, the Premier League Hall of Fame will continue to add more outstanding individuals to the “temple of legends” of the competition. However, it may be some time before another manager is included in the same way that Sir Alex and Wenger have been.
“I am really pleased to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. It’s an honor to be recognized like that. However, it’s not just about me as a person, but also about my work at MU and the bond we had over the years. So, I’m also very proud of the club, the staff, the employees, and my players.
My job is to bring the fans home happy. The history of MU and my own expectations have pushed me forward. Then, I have to try to develop all the players with the same expectation, ensuring that we can go out and conquer the titles. I feel that Arsene is a worthy candidate to enter the Hall of Fame with great contributions to Arsenal and English football,” Sir Alex added.
The legendary MU coach also revealed that over the years since retiring, he and the French professor have remained close friends, often dining together at a restaurant in Switzerland.
